Maharashtra Common Entrance Test for Law (MH CET Law)

It is the primary gateway for undergraduate legal education in Maharashtra. Through the MH CET Law exam, colleges offer a 5-Year Integrated Undergraduate Law Degree. Depending on the specific college, students can pursue:
  • BA LLB
  • BBA LLB
  • BLS LLB (Bachelor of Legal Sciences)

1. Eligibility Criteria (5-Year UG Course)

Candidates must meet specific academic requirements to sit for the exam. Outside Maharashtra State (OMS) candidates are evaluated under the Open/General category regardless of their home state category status.
  • Educational Qualification: Must have passed the 10+2 board examination or equivalent from a recognized board.
  • Age Limit: There is no upper age limit to appear for the MH CET Law exam.
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks in 10+2:
    • Open / General (Including all OMS candidates): 45%
    • OBC / SBC / VJNT (Maharashtra State candidates only): 42%
    • SC / ST (Maharashtra State candidates only): 40%

3. Entrance Examination Details

The MH CET Law is a highly competitive, speed-based examination.
  • Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test)
  • Duration: 120 minutes (2 Hours)
  • Total Questions: 120 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Maximum Marks: 120 (1 mark per correct answer)
  • Negative Marking: None
  • Subjects Tested: Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning, General Knowledge with Current Affairs, Logical and Analytical Reasoning, English, and Mathematical Aptitude.

4. Admission Process & Alternative Exams

Admission to the participating colleges happens exclusively through the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) conducted by the Maharashtra State CET Cell. For the state-sanctioned and All-India quota seats in these colleges, the MH CET Law score is strictly mandatory. Top institutions like GLC Mumbai and ILS Pune do not accept CLAT, LSAT-India, or AILET scores for their CAP rounds.

5. Seat Distribution & Outside State (OMS) Quota

The MH CET Law CAP process maintains strict seat allocation rules. Students from outside Maharashtra are classified as All India Candidature (OMS). Because OMS students are not eligible for state-specific caste reservations, they require significantly higher percentile scores (often 99.5+ percentile for top colleges) to secure a seat.

    The Maharashtra State CET Cell releases the official notification and opens the online application window on their official portal.

    Admit cards are made available for download a few weeks prior to the exam.
  • MH CET Law Exam: May

  • Results & CAP Counselling: June – July
